About

Owen Legacy Project Inc. was formed to preserve and transmit the ministerial heritage of admired United Methodist minister David Glen Owen (1936-2021).  Its first project is a book of David’s sermons over seven decades of prophetic ministry on the challenges of the Christian road and the cultivation of social conscience.  “When We Don’t Know the Length of the Race” gives Owen’s voice to seekers of truth and inspiration in a complicated world.

When We Don't Know the Length of the Race

A selection of David’s most memorable sermons has been published in book form, “When We Don’t Know the Length of the Race,” spanning over fifty years of his ministry—from David’s urban ministry work in Milwaukee and marching to Selma with Martin Luther King in the 1960s to his retirement in 2004. The words in that new book, along with a sample of his art, can be an inspiration and a guide to Christians young and old, to study groups, and to clergy and divinity students searching for the right path. Included are sermons like:

How to focus on God’s presence and avoid life’s temptations

Making the most of life’s gift regardless of its duration

"David struck us as an island of wisdom and calm in a world that often seems to have neither."
